New at the department

Welcome to IGV, Department of Geological Sciences.

Access Card/Keys

You will receive an access card from Krister Junghahn. Contact him if he hasn’t already been in touch with you.

The card is used to enter our premises. Geoscience buildning is open Monday to Friday during regular working hours.

SU-Account and Profile Page

When you start with us, you will be registered in SUKAT and receive an SU-account.
To activate your SU-account, you need a one-time code. Please email Inês Jakobsson to obtain it.

All staff at the university have their own profile page on the website. Basic information is retrieved from the staff directory SUKAT, but you are responsible for adding your portrait, biography, publication list from DiVA, as well as links and files. Remember that any information added to your profile page must be related to your position at Stockholm University.

The profile pages’ web addresses follow the pattern “su.se/profiles/username university account”.

Profile pages are an important part of the Research Catalogue and act as your public-facing profile.

Read more about how to add information to your profile page.

If you need assistance, please feel free to contact Inês Jakobsson.

Printers/Copiers

Your access card can also be used as a card for printing, scanning, or copying on any of the department’s three (3) printers located on each floor.

The first time you use any of the printers, you must register your card (optional card). Information on how to register.

Monday Meetings

Every other Monday we meet in the kitchen on the 4th floor to go through important points and news related to the department and us as staff.

An email from the Head of Department or the Administrative Manager is usually sent the day before as a reminder. If you happen to miss the meeting, you can always read the meeting notes that are posted afterwards.

Spring and Christmas Lunches

Twice a year, we gather in the kitchen on the 4th floor.
It’s a great opportunity to get to know our new colleagues and catch up with our long-time coworkers, who are always welcome.

An invitation with information and registration details will be sent by email.
These enjoyable lunches are organised by an annual party committee.

Thesis Nailings and Farewell Fikas

When a PhD student is about to defend their thesis, a nailing ceremony is held about a week beforehand, where the printed thesis is symbolically “nailed” to the wooden post on the 2nd floor. Light refreshments are usually served.

When someone is leaving IGV, it’s common for them to invite colleagues for FIKA (coffee and cake) as a farewell gathering.

These occasions are arranged by the students or staff members themselves, in consultation with their supervisor or Head of Administration.
