Software licenses

On this page you will find information about the software licenses offered at Stockholm University.

Software for work computers

As a university employee you have access to a wide range of software. Please note that this software may only be installed on computers owned by Stockholm University.

For most software, a software license must be ordered, either through Atea or Serviceportalen. The ordershould be placed by the license manager in your department.

Software for personal computers

Some software suppliers allow SU employees to use their software on a privately owned computer, known as work at home. This is usually set out in the license agreement with the supplier and is subject to certain rules and conditions.

You can request software for home use, to install on a second computer or, if you are both an employee and a student, to use student software.

  • Affinity
  • ArcGIS
  • LabView
  • MatLab
  • MS Office
  • SPSS
  • Stata

and

  • It's possible to use Stata on a second computer (owned by SU)
  • For double affiliation (if you are both a student and a staff member)

  • You must be employed (paid) by Stockholm University.
  • You must have installed the software on a computer owned by SU to be able to install it on your personal computer (applies to one computer only).
  • The installation may only be used for work-related purposes and not for personal purposes.
  • Illegal copying or unauthorised use of the software - or aiding and abetting such an act - is illegal and may result in prosecution.
  • You do not own the license, only the right to use the software for the duration of the agreement and while you are employed by SU.
  • The software must therefore be uninstalled when you terminate your employment at SU.
  • Other terms and conditions apply, see the relevant forms for a full list.

Please note that IT-support cannot assist with installations on personal computers.

To apply for home use, you will need to complete a form.

SU has its own framework agreement for license partner, Atea. The Licence Partner agreement provides the opportunity for e-commerce via the marketplace in Raindance.

For prices of Adobe and Microsoft (Visio, Project and Visual Studio) rental licenses managed by IT Services, see the software for work computers page.

For other prices, please contact ATEA.

Billing for rental licenses offered by IT Services.

The billing period for the rental licenses offered by IT Services is January to December. Invoices for rental licenses are sent out once a year (in the first quarter).

New orders placed during the year will be charged from the month of order to the end of the year. Cancellations of rental licenses must be made by December 31 and are always effective from January of the following year.

For more information on the rental licenses offered by IT Services, please see Software for work computers.

  • Orders for software (excluding rental licenses, Adobe and Microsoft products) are placed by you as a License Manager/DSA via the Raindance e-commerce portal, which can be found in the 'Selected Products' category in Atea's eShop.
  • If the software you are looking for is not available in the Atea eShop, you can contact Atea for a quote. If you accept the quote, place an order as a free text order in Raindance.
  • In cases where Atea is unable to supply the software, the departmental purchasing coordinator should be contacted to see if the purchase can be made via a call-off against Kammarkollegiet or via direct procurement/procurement.

Important information

  • In Raindance, enter 'License' instead of your name in the goods labelling field. This will ensure a safer and quicker delivery of the licenses.
  • Separate software orders, i.e. do not mix client/hardware orders in the same order as software. This is to reduce handling time at the supplier and to separate the physical and digital delivery.

As a license holder, you can order the installation of software via Serviceportalen.

  • For departments/equivalents using the SU Workstation ("SUA"), the software is ordered and installed by the central IT-support.
  • For departments/equivalents that do not use SU Workstation ("SUA"), the license holder can download the software from download.su.se (the page is access controlled, only license holders have access).

If you have any questions, for example about product advice, you can email Atea.

If you have any questions about the e-commerce portal or other procurement issues, please contact the Purchasing and Procurement Department.

When the need for a new License Manager arises, the Head of Department/equivalent must apply for access to SU's internal systems for License Managers using the form below.

The form refers to the request for access to internal systems for the purpose of downloading software and licence keys. The form should be emailed to program@su.se
