Publishing support
Publishing the results of your research will contribute to the advancement of science and promote the dissemination of research into society.
Find out how you can advance your career with this overview of the support available at Stockholm University for various aspects of scientific publishing, including manuscript preparation, journal selection, and open access publishing.
Publish with Open Access
Research results from Stockholm University should be published and shared as openly as possible, according to its Open Science Policy. This aligns with EU policies and Sweden's national guidelines. Attached to the university policy is a Open Science Plan, describing how to transition to an open science landscape according to the FAIR principles.
Different academic traditions and practices will lead to various approaches to Open Science. However, all material marked with Stockholm University must be accessible to society and be trustworthy.
Here's how the university supports you when publishing open access:
In cases where you cannot publish an article or book chapter with immediate open access, according to the publisher's agreement, you can parallel publish an allowed version in DiVA. This allows potential readers to still find your work.
SU Dynamica - SUstainable Publishing is a new publishing platform currently open only to researchers at Stockholm University. Through this platform, researchers can publish their work openly without any cost and have their articles peer-reviewed. The articles are assigned a DOI and will eventually be registered in DiVA.
Paying for your Open Access Article
To publish an article with open access, many publishers charge a publication fee (also called Article Processing Charge or, APC). Researchers employed at Stockholm University can in many cases utilise the Library services to pay publication fees since due to pre-negotiated agreements with publishers. In cases where you or your institution aim cover the publication fee, you may be eligible for a reduced fee.
Publish with Stockholm University Press
Stockholm University Press is a researcher-led publishing house hosted by the Library that publishes openly accessible and peer-reviewed books and journals. Books and journals are managed in collaboration with researchers in the fields of humanities, social sciences, law, and natural sciences.
Research Evaluation and Bibliometrics
The university uses bibliometrics to evaluate the publications produced by its researchers.
The library retrieves information about your publishing activity from Web of Science and Scopus, but publications that do not appear in DiVA two weeks after publication need to be registered by yourself to be included in the analysis.
Information about all your written output should be available in DiVA. This includes everything from popular science writings and books to scientific articles and monographs (according to the University President's Decision 2006-0609, Reg. No. SU 301-1350-05).
Copyright and Open Licenses
Researchers at Stockholm University often retain the copyright to the publications they produce. Publishing with open access means that you retain your copyright by making materials freely available via the internet, through an open license such as Creative Commons.
