Change of text matching tool

The university will switch its text-matching tool from Ouriginal to Inspera Originality. The change will take place during the autumn of 2025.

Background

Stockholm University has, through SUNET, signed a new agreement with Inspera Originality, which replaces the previous service Ouriginal (Urkund).

Reasons for the change

The provider Turnitin has announced that Ouriginal is reaching the end of its lifecycle and will be discontinued in the summer of 2026.
The current agreement with Ouriginal via SUNET expires on 31 October 2025. In accordance with the Swedish Public Procurement Act (LOU 2016:1145), a new competitive procurement process is required.

Contract duration

The agreement with Inspera Originality is valid from 1 November 2025 and may be extended until 31 October 2037.

Implementation Timeline

Implementation will take place between 15 September and 1 November 2025.

Implementation process

A reference group consisting of representatives from the Disciplinary Board and core university operations has been appointed to support IT Services during the implementation.

Question: How do I log in to Inspera Originality?
Answer: You can log in in two ways:
Via the standalone portal and click Login with SWAMID.
Via Inspera Assessment

If you experience login or usage issues, please report them via Serviceportalen

Question: Can I upload documents for text matching?
Answer: Yes. You can use either the standalone portal or Inspera Assessment to upload documents for text matching. See the guide above.

Question: Is the service available in Inspera Assessment?
Answer: Yes. Inspera Originality is integrated into Inspera Assessment. Assessment and text matching are performed in the same system, with the possibility to transfer results to Ladok.

Question: Will the service be available in Canvas?
Answer: Yes. Inspera Originality will be integrated into Canvas when Stockholm University transitions to Canvas in autumn 2026.

Question: Will the service work in Athena?
Answer: No. According to Itslearning, integration is not possible. For text matching, we recommend using Inspera Assessment or the standalone portal. See the guide below:

Question: Does the entire department need to use the same method?
Answer: No. The choice between using Inspera Assessment or the standalone portal is optional and can be made at the course level. However, coordination within the department may facilitate collegial
support and efficient workflows.

Question: What happens to texts stored in Ouriginal/Urkund?
Answer: All texts that were saved to the archive in Ouriginal (Urkund) have been migrated to Inspera Originality.

Question: What happens to reports in Ouriginal/Urkund?
Answer: Reports are no longer accessible after 31 October. If you have cases that may lead to disciplinary proceedings, relevant reports should have been downloaded before this date.

Question: Are other Swedish universities using Inspera Originality?
Answer: Yes. A total of 27 Swedish higher education institutions have transitioned from Ouriginal to Inspera Originality, enabling broader comparison of student texts.

Question: When was Ouriginal/Urkund shut down?
Answer: Ouriginal was shut down on 31 October 2025 in connection with the expiration of the national framework agreement via SUNET. This applies to all Swedish higher education institutions.
