AI detection in Inspera Originality will not be activated

SU will switch to a new text-matching tool on 1 November. The AI detection feature built into Inspera Originality will not be activated at launch. As the technology develops and language support expands, this may change.

The university’s new text-matching tool, Inspera Originality, which will be introduced on 1 November, includes a feature to assess the likelihood that a text is AI-generated. However, following a comprehensive evaluation, the reference group for the implementation of Inspera Originality recommends that the AI detection feature not be activated at launch.
The reasons are that the feature currently:

  • is only available for texts in English, which limits its usefulness in a Swedish context, and
  • is not included in the national framework agreement to which Stockholm University is a party, meaning activation would incur additional costs that cannot be justified based on current needs.

The reference group therefore assesses that the benefit of the feature is limited, especially since the majority of texts reviewed at the university are written in Swedish.

A new decision may be considered in the future as the technology evolves and language support expands.
