About the university's environmental and climate work
Stockholm University contributes to societal awareness and knowledge about the environment and sustainable development through education, research, and collaboration. At the same time, the university's operations have negative environmental impacts, not least through greenhouse gas emissions. The university works to reduce this environmental impact in accordance with laws and its own established goals.
For all employees – environmental considerations at work
All employees at the university should be familiar with Stockholm University's environmental policy and policy for meetings and travel. Employees are obliged to consider the environment in their daily work, including waste management, travel, chemical handling, and procurement. It is also important for all employees to be aware of the procedures for reporting environmental deviations and suggestions for improvements.
For Environmental Representatives
Each department and administrative office at Stockholm University should have at least one Environmental Representative who coordinates and leads the operational environmental work at the department (or equivalent). For heads of departments or managers
As a head of department or manager, you are responsible for the environmental work at your department or administrative office.
The university's environmental management system
An environmental management system is a structure designed to promote systematic environmental work. As a government agency, the university must meet the requirements of the Environmental Management Ordinance. The university has also chosen to follow the requirements of the environmental management standard ISO 14001.
Steering and support documents for environmental work
Stockholm University's environmental management system includes central documents such as policies, procedures, and instructions. The documents for overall environmental work apply to all employees, while other documents only concern environmental representatives or employees working in laboratory environment.
Environmental deviations and suggestions for improvement
An environmental deviation is a departure from environmental legislation, the university's local rules and procedures, or the university's environmental management system. Suggestions for improvements are ideas for how environmental work can be impoved and how negative environmental impacts can be reduces on the local or central level. These should be reported in the IA system.
