The recruitment process for new Vice President has begun

Stockholm University Vice President Clas Hättestrand’s term of office expires on 30 June 2025. The University Board has therefore decided to begin an open recruitment process to appoint a new Vice President to take up office from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2031.

Mandatperioden The term of office for Stockholm University’s current Vice President Clas Hättestrand, Professor of Physical Geography, expires on 30 June 2025, and the University Board therefore needs to appoint a new Vice President.

On 20 September, the University Board decided to start a recruitment process in open competition, which means that a recruitment group must be appointed.

“The recruitment group will manage the ongoing recruitment work and they will consult academic staff, other employees and students through the Stockholm University’s Consultative Assembly. It is also the recruitment group that submits a proposal for new Vice President to the University Board in consultation with the President”, says Anna Riddarström at the Office of the President with responsibility for the recruitment process.

The recruitment group consists of nine members, of which three are appointed by the University Board, three are appointed by the Consultative Assembly, two are appointed by the Student Union and one by the staff organizations.

A Vice President is a deputy for a President at Swedish universities and higher education institutions, and the Vice President serves in the President’s place when he or she is not on duty.
Eligible to be Vice President is someone who meets the assessment criteria for employment as a professor or associate professor. During the winter and spring of 2025, the recruitment group will make proposals for a requirements profile and decide on a time for free nomination. The group will also choose which candidates are to be interviewed and conduct the interviews.

The University Board makes the decision to appoint the Vice President.
“The goal for the University Board is to decide on a proposal for a new Vice President at the end of April 2025”, says Anna Riddarström.
