International Office

The International Office provides support to students and staff of Stockholm University in matters related to internationalisation.

There are many opportunities for students and teachers to give their education an international dimension, for example through development projects with higher education institutions in other countries and shorter or longer stays abroad to teach, study or train.

The International Office works with student exchange, internships, staff mobility and international student recruitment. This includes work on university-wide international initiatives, coordination of the Erasmus+ programme, handling student exchanges within university-wide agreements and networks, and coordination of the university's work on international student recruitment.

The International Office also provides support to the departments' work on internationalisation, as well as to the university management in certain international matters. The work is organised into three teams, which are listed below.

Head of the International Office: Åsa Petri

Coordination and project support

This team coordinates the support the International Office provides to the departments, for example planning meetings and various activities to support the development of internationalization within their educational activities.

You can contact this team if you are interested in applying for project support within the Erasmus+ or Nordplus programs. This team also coordinates SU's membership in several international associations and coordinates incoming foreign visits at a central level.

Student mobility

This team coordinates and develops university-wide (central) agreements with a focus on student mobility. The team supports the departments in matters of student mobility and handles mobility within central agreements and networks. Furthermore, this team is responsible for Erasmus+ scholarships for studies and internships. The Exchange Coordinators Network is coordinated by this team.

International student recruitment

The International Student Recruitment (ISR) team is responsible for digital and physical recruitment activities and communication with international student applicants. The team also works with migration issues, statistics and student surveys. The team also works with hosting international students, such as coordinating welcome activities and sending out newsletters with tips on activities.

Stockholm University has a forum on Slack regarding international student recruitment and student communication that employees who work with the issues or are interested in following can join via this link:

Join the Forum for international student recruitment and student communication on Slack

In this forum, you can follow posts and conversations that concern everything from the application process, communication tools, physical and virtual activities and info meetings, etc.

We recommendat to download the desktop app for Slack, because then it is possible to have Slack open in the background and receive a notification when something new is published, instead of actively having to go in and check for new messages.

The Human Resources Department provides support to institutions when recruiting international employees. This may include advice on issues related to work and residence permits, information about the Swedish pension system, taxes and social security issues, as well as family-related issues such as suggestions for schools for accompanying children. Information is also available at su.se/relocation.

We regularly arrange information meetings with government agencies such as the Swedish Migration Board (Migrationsverket), the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), and the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency (Kammarkollegiet). The HR department has procured an agreement with the company Human Entrance, which offers relocation services. We also collaborate with the institutions in the development of URA contracts that are signed in connection with our secondment of employees.

International recruitment communication of students and researchers

The Communications Department works with comprehensive and coherent external communication for Stockholm University. In this work, a common communication concept is used to communicate about the university's education, research and collaboration, thereby strengthening the brand.

Project Manager for International Communication, Communications Department, email: serena.nobili@su.se .

Special projects

The International Office has been commissioned by the university management to develop and manage and digital system to support internationalisation work across the university. Through the Digitalisation of International Mobility (DIM) project, Mobility Online will be implemented at Stockholm University starting in autumn 2024 (this work is ongoing).

The International Office has entered into an agreement with Sida regarding national coordination of the program Minor Field Studies (MFS).
