Add-on features in Microsoft 365 will not be enabled
The add-on features known as “optional connected experiences” will not be enabled in Microsoft 365 at the University. This is to ensure compliance with GDPR and other applicable legislation.
The University uses Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office under an agreement that governs how personal data may be processed. These software products include add-on features that Microsoft refers to as “optional connected experiences”. The add-on features consist of applications, plug-ins and cloud-based online services that are integrated with Word, Excel and other Office applications. These services are provided not only by Microsoft, but also by external suppliers.
If the add-on features are enabled, you as a user enter into a separate agreement directly with Microsoft, outside the University’s agreement. This means that Microsoft – and not Stockholm University – becomes responsible for the processing of your personal data. To ensure that the University complies with GDPR and other applicable legislation, “optional connected experiences” will therefore not be enabled in the University’s Microsoft 365 environment or in Microsoft Office LTSC.
What does this mean for you as a user?
This means that certain add-on features, applications and online services in Microsoft 365 and Office will not be available in the University’s environment. You can still use the core functionality of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office applications as usual.
