The purpose of the scholarships is to facilitate the recruitment of particularly qualified students who are required to pay tuition fees. The funds are paid to the higher education institutions by the Swedish Council for Higher Education.
Local regulations at Stockholm University
- The scholarships should primarily be awarded to particularly qualified students. The assessment should be based on the students’ study achievements and qualifications. A letter of motivation can be used as a criterion.
- Only students admitted to a one- or two-year programme given in English, which leads to a general qualification at the master’s level (Degree of Master (60 credits) or Degree of Master (120 credits)), are eligible to receive a scholarship from Stockholm University.
- Students who apply for a programme at Stockholm University as their first choice should be given priority.
- The scholarship should cover the full tuition fee for an entire programme.
- The scholarship funds are distributed among the scientific area boards. The allocation is based on the number of full-time equivalent students required to pay tuition fees within each scientific area board. The distribution between the scientific area boards is determined by the Head of Student Services.
- Student Services is entitled to distribute more funds than it has been awarded.
- Student Services is entitled to recover funds that have not been used. These funds can be used to, for example, develop joint programmes with other higher education institutions. Surplus funds can also be used to grant scholarships to students who are starting their second year.
- Decisions regarding which students will be awarded scholarships are delegated to the relevant scientific area board.
- Decisions to continue paying scholarships, or to withdraw scholarships, are made by the Head of Student Services.
This decision was made by the President, Professor Astrid Söderbergh Widding, in the presence of Assistant Director of Administration Åsa Borin. Student representatives have been informed and given the opportunity to be heard. Henrik Lindell from the Office of the President was also present (keeper of the minutes).
