When does reusing your own work cross the line?
Publishing the same work more than once may constitute a deviation from good research practice. At the same time, there are situations in which such recycling would make sense and be acceptable from a research integrity perspective. But what distinguishes these situations?
On September 30, this topic will be discussed during a lunch webinar organised within the University Alliance Stockholm Trio, a partnership between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University.
The invited speaker is Gert Helgesson, professor of medical ethics at Karolinska Institutet. He has a keen interest in publication ethics issues, including self-plagiarism and what makes it problematic.
– We can see that norms on reuse of one’s own texts vary across academic disciplines and also with context, which means that expectations vary too and this is key to understand disagreement regarding self-plagiarism, says Gert Helgesson.
