Wireguard VPN service to be phased out and replaced by FortiClient
The Wireguard VPN service is to be replaced by FortiClient. The reason for the change is to improve IT security and the work will take place in stages from March 11.
In a few weeks, IT Services will begin the transition to the FortiClient VPN client for those not already using it. The migration to FortiClient is an important part of the work to increase IT security at Stockholm University and gives us the opportunity to develop features that improve the user experience.
The work will take place in the following stages:
- Computers connected to the SU Workstation Mac (“SUA”): Will start on Tuesday March 11 and WireGuard will be uninstalled on Wednesday March 26.
- Computers without the SU Workstation (“SUA”) (Windows, MacOS and Linux): Will start Tuesday March 18 and WireGuard will be shut down mid-April.
There have been requests for VPN for mobile devices and this will not be offered initially, but IT Services will investigate in the future if there is a need.
