First Foundation Day – A New Meeting Point for Foundations and Researchers
The first Foundation Day, held on October 23, was a great success, establishing an important meeting place for researchers and foundations. The event attracted a broad attendance, and many valuable connections were made during the day’s mingling between researchers and representatives from seven different foundations.
The purpose of the day was to promote alternative funding sources for the University's research initiatives and to strengthen ties between academia and the foundation world.
The day began with a welcoming speech by President Astrid Söderbergh Widding. This was followed by a program featuring presentations of research projects from various fields, including climate research, medical radiation science, and interdisciplinary studies on children's rights. Researchers had the opportunity to showcase their groundbreaking research and discuss its social impact.
For many participants, the highlight of the day was the open mingling session, where researchers and foundations could network and discuss potential collaborations. Vegetarian wraps were served as discussions flowed around research projects and future funding opportunities.
"It was wonderful to see the broad scope of research happening at the University and to gain insights into important and concrete examples. Very inspiring!" says Anna Carlström, Head of Administration at the Kamprad Family Foundation. She continues:
"For us at the Kamprad Family Foundation, it was valuable to share how we work to support research where there is a great need for knowledge that benefits society. We work with open calls for all areas within our designated fields: A Better Environment, Entrepreneurship, especially for a vibrant rural life, and Quality of Life for the Elderly."
The foundation representatives concluded the day with a meeting with the University's leadership.
