Election of the Board of Science for the 2027 – 2029 term
During autumn 2026, the election of the Board of Science for the 2027-2029 term will be held. The information regarding the election process and the work of the Nomination Committee will be published on this page.
The Nomination Committee
The task of the Nomination Committee is to suggest members of the Board of Science for the next term. The Nomination Committee is comprised of the head of the committee and two representatives from each of the four sections in the Science Academic Area. The Nomination Committee is appointed by the Board of Science when one year of its term remains. Before the election of the Board of Science for the 2027-2029 term the current Board of Science has on December 4, 2025 appointed the following Nomination Committee:

The decision that Joanna Tyrcha replaces Maria Deijfen was made on March 10, 2026.
The task of the Nomination Committee
The Nomination Committee plays a central role when the positions of the Board Science are to be filled. The main task of the Nomination Committee is to suggest suitable persons for the positions within the board before the election of the Board of Science. It is therefore important that the members of the Nomination Committee altogether have a good insight into the work of the Science Academic Area and the work duties of the Board of Science, the working committee, section deans and the chair of the Committee for Undergraduate Education.
- The Nomination Committee should work according to the rules for the election established by the President of Stockholm University.
- The Nomination Committee should actively encourage the electoral assembly to give nominations suggestions.
- The members of the Nomination Committee can make their own suggestions.
- Gender equality and rules on conflict of interest should be considered.
- The Nomination Committee’s suggestions should be representative and the members that are suggested should be firmly established within the organization.
- The members that are being suggested should be eligible and have accepted the position in the board they are being nominated to.
- The Nomination Committee’s suggestion of the Dean should be made in consultation with the President.
- The Nomination Committee’s suggestions should be declared in the minutes and the Nomination Committee decides on how the candidates will be presented to the electoral assembly.
- The Nomination Committee decides otherwise on its own form of work and may, if needed, invite experts to its meetings.

The information meeting regarding the Nomination Committee’s suggestion
On August 24, 2026 at 16.00 in Vivi Täckholmssalen (NPQ-huset, Svante Arrhenius väg 20) an information meeting regarding the Nomination Committee’s suggestion will be held.
Nomination
During September 22 – October 6, 2026 those who are eligible to vote have the right to present a written alternative to the Nomination Committee’s suggestion (Swedish – motförslag till valberedningens förslag). A motivation can be attached to the alternative nomination. Those who are being nominated must be eligible and willing to be a candidate. The alternative suggestion must include names for all positions within the Board of Science and must be sent to fakultetsval@science.su.se.
Possible alterantive nominations will be announced on October 7, 2026.
The election
The election is carried out electronically during October 14 - October 21, 2026. Those who are eligible to vote will receive an email with a link to the ballot.
The result of the election will be announced on October 22, 2026.
The composition of the Board of Science and its tasks
According to Stockholm University’s Procedure of Work (Swedish - Stockholms universitets arbetsordning), approved by the University Board on September 22, 2025, the Board of Science consists of 18 members: Dean, Vice Dean, four Section Deans, four Vice Section Deans, Chair of the Committee for Undergraduate Education, four teachers (one from each section) and three student representatives.
Apart from the abovementioned, the following deputy members are part of the Board of Science: four group deputies (one from each section), a personal deputy to the Chair of the Committee for Undergraduate Education and deputies for student representatives.
The Dean is the chair of the Board of Science and Vice Dean is the vice chair.
The Dean and the Vice Dean are appointed by the President according to the suggestion after the election among those who are eligible to vote within the area/the faculty. Other representatives are appointed through the election among those who are eligible to vote within the area/the faculty. Student representatives are appointed according to the rules in the Student Union Ordinance. Trade union representatives have the right to participate and express their opinion.
The tasks of the area board and the faculty board are specified in Stockholm University’s Procedure of Work and the Delegation of decision and authority for Stockholm University (Swedish - Stockholms universitets arbetsordning and Besluts- och delegationsordning för Stockholms universitet). The area board should be representative and should be firmly established within the organization. Those who are eligible and possible to suggest as members of the area board are teachers/researchers with research qualifications within the responsibility area of the board; in this case these are professors or other teachers/researchers who have obtained doctoral degree or possess corresponding research qualifications.
