Call for Applications: Faculty of Social Sciences Sabbatical Funding 2026
The Faculty of Social Sciences is announcing funding for sabbatical terms to enable permanently employed teachers (senior lecturers and professors) at the faculty to conduct their research at another higher education institution, either abroad or within Sweden.
The Faculty Board of Social Sciences decides on the allocation of funds based on the rankings of applications by the Working Group for Doctoral Education's Scholarship Committee, focusing on scientific quality.
A sabbatical term comprises a 3–6 month stay at another higher education institution. The home department concerned will be compensated with SEK 400,000 per teacher and semester. For stays shorter than 6 months, funds are distributed proportionally. Of these funds, a maximum of 40% may be used for travel, daily allowance, accommodation, and increased living expenses for the applicant. The remaining funds constitute compensation to the department for the absence of the teacher's services. Consequently, the home departments must co-fund the sabbaticals by hiring a substitute (unless time can be freed up by other means). Awarded grants must be used within a two-year period.
Each department may nominate a maximum of two participants, and these must be ranked in order of priority.
The application must be submitted by October 1 at the latest, to: utbildning@samfak.su.se and must include:
- A plan and purpose for the sabbatical term, including the time period of the stay, the names of intended collaborators at the host university, and an invitation letter from that university.
- A research plan for the sabbatical term (maximum 3 pages).
- A CV.
- A list of publications.
- A letter of support from the Head of Department, thereby approving the necessary co-funding.
