Checklist – threats via email and social media
What to do in case of threats via email and social media?
If you as a university employee are exposed to harassment or threats via email or social media, do the following:
- Save the email or link to the blog, comment section of an article or webpage.
- Note the date and time when you received/discovered the message.
- Inform your line manager.
- Contact the Property Management Office, Security Coordinator: Thomas Hårberg, phone 08-16 10 25, thomas.harberg@su.se.
Among other things, you can get advice on how to act, help to draw up a possible police report and, if necessary, get security guard support. You can also get support in tracking down the person who has threatened you or get help in contacting those responsible for websites where threats are made.
You can also make a report directly, via the incident reporting system: IA-systemet.
Handbook on personal security
The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) has produced a handbook on personal security that contains advice and support for political activists, but it can also be used by other professionals.
Download the handbook from the Säpo website.
If you have media contacts, for example about your research, and as a result risk being exposed to harassment or threats in social media, contact the press service at the Communications Office for advice and support, phone 08-16 40 90 or press@su.se.
