Housing for international students

This page is for international coordinators. It contains information about our student accommodation and which student groups can apply for accommodation. You will also find suggestions on how to design information emails to students.

The University rents out approximately 650 apartments, of which approximately 550 are rented to incoming international students. Accommodation is let through the Housing Office of the Property Management Office.

Who can get accommodation?

We only offer accommodation to exchange students and fee-paying students in accordance with current legislation.

There are fewer accommodations than incoming students. This means that not everyone who applies for accommodation can be offered a place.

Student accommodation is allocated according on a priority basis. The priority groups are exchange students and UHR scholarship holders. We do not guarantee accommodation.

Number of beds and types of accommodation

The University provides student accommodation in four areas on or near the campus:

  • Kungshamra: About 40 corridor rooms with private bathrooms and shared kitchens.
  • Lappskärrsberget: Approximately 300 corridor rooms with private bathrooms and a shared kitchen in each corridor.
  • Nora torg: Just over 30 rooms with kitchenettes and a large kitchen in the common areas.
  • Albano: Over 150 apartments (studios and 1-2 bedroom apartments).

Information for exchange coordinators

It is important to inform your incoming students in good time that the University offers student accommodation and to direct them to the Student Accommodation web pages in English.

There they will find all the information they need, including application deadlines for the current semester. You should also advise them that there is no guarantee of accommodation and that they should seek accommodation through other channels.

Matching outgoing and incoming students

As an international coordinator at an institution, you have the opportunity to help the institution's students find accommodation by matching outgoing and incoming students. We have put together some tips, advice and recommendations on how this process can work.

Matching outgoing and incoming students

Priority scheme

Each institution decides how to prioritise students in each category, in addition to the university's overall priority scheme.

Please contact the International Office for assistance and advice on prioritisation.

Deadline for submission of accommodation list

For the autumn semester: 17 May

For the spring semester: 17 October

Submit your list well in advance – accommodation allocation starts the following day.

Allocation of accommodation

  • By 30 June/30 November, an offer of accommodation will be sent to students who have been offered accommodation in the first round. Before the start of the semester, the Housing Office will email a list of all students who have been offered accommodation to all International Coordinators at each department.
  • Exchange students who have not been offered accommodation in the first allocation will receive an information email from the Housing Office informing them that they are on a waiting list and providing information on how to find accommodation on their own.
  • Exchange students will only receive one offer of accommodation. If they decide not to accept the offer, they must find accommodation themselves.
  • Accommodation is rented on a termly basis only. Shorter leases are not possible. A tenancy agreement may be extended for a maximum of two semesters, provided that the tenant is studying at the University for the duration of the tenancy.
  • Fee-paying students, other than UHR Scholars, who are not on the housing list will be offered accommodation on a waiting list basis, subject to availability.

Summer accommodation

During the summer there are usually vacant student residences available for use by international students on summer courses. These residences are booked by the department and rent is paid by internal debit. Booking requests are made via the Service Portal.
