Participants must arrange their own travel and health insurance. KTH and Stockholm University cannot cover medical or travel costs.

Arlanda Express (high-speed train)

Arlanda Express is the high-speed train, running every 15 minutes from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm Central Station. The journey takes 18 minutes and costs 340 SEK.

Coach bus

The coach bus company Flygbussarna runs every 10-15 minutes with various stops in Stockholm. The ride to Stockholm City Bus Terminal take about 45 minutes and cost 129 SEK.

Taxi

The taxi companies contracted with Swedavia, the company running Arlanda Airport, are located directly outside the arrivals hall at Terminal 5 and outside Terminal 2.

The taxis are available 24/7 and the ride to central Stockholm take about 45-50 minutes. We recommend that you ask the driver about the fare before starting your journey. The cost fare is about 550 to 750 SEK depending on the hour.

Swedavia, the company running Arlanda Airport, have certain information regarding taxis at Arlanda Airport

Always choose an airport-approved taxi. Be attentive and follow signs toward Taxi, Approved Taxi. Taxi companies approved and contracted by Swedavia have a maximum fare within the designated zone. If you choose a taxi that is not contracted with Swedavia, you risk paying an unreasonably high price for your ride. Therefore, never go with a taxi driver who offers you a ride inside the arrivals hall. Only drivers who have a pre-booked car are allowed in the arrivals hall to meet passengers. A driver offering a taxi inside the terminal does not have an airport contract, and if you choose such a taxi, you risk paying an unreasonably high price.

Public transport from Arlanda Airport

Stockholm's public transport is run by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). It is possible to use the regular commuter rail service to travel to and from Arlanda, catching the trains between Uppsala and Stockholm. There is a fee for passing to and from the trains and the airport terminal at Arlanda. Single journey SL ticket including passage supplement fee is 190 SEK.

Stockholm's public transport is run by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). Find all information you need on tickets and how getting around on their website sl.se.

• To plan trips and buy tickets, please download the SL app on Apple store or Google Play. You can also find trips on SL's website.
• A ticket costs 43 SEK and is valid for 75 minutes with unlimited transfers on metro, buses, commuter trains, boats and trams.
• If you have a contactless Visa, Mastercard or AmEx-card, you can use the card at the gates on the metro, buses and commuter trains.
• 24/72-hour travelcards are available through SL or resellers such as 7-Eleven/Pressbyrån and kiosks.

Getting to KTH and SU from Stockholm Central Station

From Stockholm Central Station, take the red metro line (T-bana 14) towards Mörby Centrum.

Eduroam is available in all university buildings. Please use your home-university eduroam credentials.

If you do not have eduroam, we will disclose wi-fi access at each venue.

• Language: English is widely spoken and understood, and you will have no trouble getting around.
• Currency: Swedish krona (SEK). 1 euro is roughly about 9 SEK. Please note that Sweden is largely a cash-free society. Carry a chip-and-PIN or contactless card to get around.
• Time zone: Central European Summer Time in September (UTC+2).
• Weather: The average temperature in early September is Day 16 °C / Night 9 °C. The weather is hard to predict, so please pack layers and a light rain jacket.
• Electricity: 230 V, 50 Hz, plugs Type C/F (two round pins).
• Water: Tap water is safe and tasty, ranked among the cleanest in the world. Bring a reusable bottle and skip buying bottled water. Tap water is free at restaurants and cafes.
• Shopping hours: Malls 10:00–20:00 (Mon–Fri); 10:00–18:00 (Sat); 11:00–18:00 (Sun). Grocery stores are usually open 07:00–22:00.
• Safety: Stockholm is safe, but guard phones/wallets on crowded trains and in bars.
• Phone: Swedish numbers drop the leading 0 when you add the country code +46. Example: 08-790 7700 → +46 8 790 7700. To call abroad from Sweden: dial 00 + country code + number (exclude that number’s leading zero).

Getting from Stockholm to Gothenburg is easy, comfortable, and scenic - especially by train! The journey takes around 3 to 3.5 hours and offers a relaxing ride through Sweden's beautiful countryside. Trains depart frequently from Stockholm Central Station and arrive at Gothenburg Central Station, right in the heart of the city.

For a smooth and sustainable trip, we recommend booking train tickets directly through the train operators SJ or VR.
