Rules for initiation grants
Here, you will find rules for initiation grants for inter-faculty programmes and courses in the first and second cycles.
Initiation grants
The Strategic Objectives and Actions of the Human Science Area state that Human Science shall promote inter-faculty educational initiatives and inter-faculty collaborations. A training initiative is considered inter-faculty if at least two departments with different faculty affiliations collaborate to plan and implement the training in question. Support is not provided for existing activities but for the development and initiation of new activities.
Support
The Board of Human Science grants support in the form of an initiation grant of SEK 75 000 per course and SEK 150 000 per programme. The initiation grant is intended to cover costs for the development of cross-faculty education (planning meetings, development of syllabus/programme, etc.).
Terms
As a rule, a support request must always be preceded by a needs and impact assessment at the departmental level. One of the departments must be responsible for the course/programme. The responsible department and the collaborating department(s) must agree in writing on the distribution of any support amount, costs, and teaching responsibilities.
Grants are announced once a year, in the spring semester, and require applicants to plan well in advance so that the departments and staff have the opportunity to plan for the initiatives in their operational plans.
The distribution of the initiation grant is limited to a maximum of 10 programmes/courses per financial year for the entire Human of Science Area.
Application
The application of an initiation grant must be received by the Board of Human Science by 1 February or the next working day. The application is submitted by the responsible department and must include:
- A brief explanation to why the course/programme is to be offered (and that it does not compete with existing education at Stockholm University).
- The position of the programme within the progression studies of the main field(s) of study; information on whether the programme can be included in a (general) degree in one or more main fields of study.
- Dimensioning (expected number of students)
- Approval from the relevant heads of department
- Timetable for the development process.
Preparation process
Applications for initiation grants are to be submitted to the Board of Human Science and are processed by the Office of Human Science. The case is prepared by the Committee on Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education (BUGA), which submits proposals for decisions to the Board. The Office is responsible for forwarding the decision to the responsible department. Establishment and adoption of course or programme syllabuses are carried out in accordance with the decision-making and delegation regulations that apply to the faculty to which the responsible department belongs.
Specification of payment procedures
The initiation grant is paid to the responsible department after the Board has decided on the allocation. Completed work on the course and programme development must be reported in the form of a short report to the Board. Staff costs are allocated by the Policy (ref. SU FV-1358-22). The allocation of any other costs is specified by a written agreement between the departments.
