Guidelines for fixed-term employment of teachers (except professors) in the Human of Science
The Board of Human Science decided on 11 October 2017 to establish procedures for fixed-term employment of teachers (except professors) in the Human Science.
The Employment Protection Act (LAS) states that the main rule in the Swedish labour market is that employment shall be for an indefinite period (‘permanent employment’), fixed-term employment shall be the exception.
‘Section 4 Employment contracts are valid until further notice. However, a fixed-term employment contract may be concluded in the cases specified in sections 5 and 6. If such an agreement is reached in other cases, the employee may, in the manner specified in Section 36, obtain a court declaration that the agreement shall apply until further notice.’
Fixed-term employment (e.g. senior lecturer, lecturer, visiting lecturer and adjunct lecturer) can be made on the basis of the provisions of LAS, other legislation or regulations or collective agreements.
