The work environment representative is the employees' representative in work environment issues and their task is to safeguard a good work environment. Similarly, student work environment representatives are the students' representatives in work environment issues.
According to the Work Environment Act (WEA), the work environment representative must monitor protection against ill health and accidents, participate in the planning of new or modified premises, equipment, work processes and working methods, and in the planning of the use of substances that may cause ill health or accidents. The work environment representative must also participate in drawing up action plans for systematic work environment management. The work environment representative has the right to work on work environment issues during his/her working hours.

Work environment round
A work environment round, also known as a safety round, is part of the systematic work environment management to prevent ill health and accidents in the workplace. It is the head of department, director or head of office who is responsible for ensuring that the work environment round is planned and carried out in consultation with the department's/ equivalent work environment representative.
During a work environment round, a review of the physical work environment is carried out so that any shortcomings can be discovered and corrected. It is also an opportunity to consider possible improvements in the work environment, follow up that previous measures have been taken and ensure that the organisation applies current laws and regulations. In order for the work environment management to be systematic and to be able to be followed up, the work environment round needs to be documented.
All institutions and their equivalents must carry out regular work environment rounds, at least once a year or more often depending on the risks in the work environment.
