PhD students' work situation
Information about the employee survey on PhD students' work situation that will be conducted during the autumn of 2021. The information is aimed at managers.
Background and purpose
The survey on PhD students' work situation is part of Stockholm University's employee survey 2021–2023
The purpose of the survey is to identify the PhD students‘ work situation in terms of their conditions and to investigate the PhD students’ work situation during the ongoing pandemic. The reason why the PhD students' work situation is analysed with a separate survey is that the PhD students have slightly different conditions than other employees.
The PhD students will also be included in the employee survey on work climate, leadership and performance reviews (autumn semester 2022) and on harassment, sexual harassment and victimization (autumn semester 2023).
About the survey
This survey is of a simpler type (temperature measurement) to analyse the current working situation of PhD students and compare it with previous results.
The survey consists of two parts:
- questions about supervision, study programme, introduction, etc.
- questions about the PhD students' work situation during their studies
The survey will be conducted between 25 October and 14 November 2021 via a survey tool in collaboration with our new supplier Springlife. On the morning of 25 October, all PhD students concerned will receive an email with a link to the survey. There may be up to four reminders during the survey period. The survey will close on 14 November at 23:59.
The survey is open to all PhD students who:
- are in employment by 1 August 2021 and still in employment on 14 November 2021
- are in employment regardless of the funding type.
Results
The results will be presented to the deans of the respective faculties, including the results of the individual departments. PhD students will receive a results report in December 2021.
To ensure anonymity, results will only be shown for groups with five or more responses. If there are eight or more responses, the proportion of responses (spread) will also be shown for each response option.
After analysing the results, decisions will then be taken on possible actions.
